Course Description

The Digital Media class offers the most advanced entertainment production program in the valley. Through hands-on training, state-of-the-art equipment, and software, you’ll be training in a studio-simulated environment. You will gain skills in audio and video editing, 3D computer animation, multi-track recording, HD videography, digital cinema production, special effects, and much more. This course gives you the opportunity to create programming for 90.3 FM HD-2 The VorTECHS, a student run, alternative radio station broadcasting live 24/7 from the Digital Media classroom. You bring the creativity; we’ll teach you the skills to create it. 

This program is jointly offered between YV-TECH and Yakima Valley Community College (YVCC). Adults enroll at YVCC through the Workforce Director’s Office. High school students can earn up to 50 college credits at YVCC upon completion of the TV/Video Communications AAS Degree Program. Another avenue to obtain up to 47 college credits is through the YVCC’s TECH PREP Program.

Sessions Offered: 8:00-10:30AM / 12:00-2:30PM

Length of Program: 1-2 years

Equivalency Credits: 1 credit geometry / 1 credit art / .5 credit english 11/12

College Credits: Available to those who qualify

Certifications/Licensures: Available to those who qualify

 

 Employment Outlook

Broadcast and sound engineering technicians set up, operate, and maintain the electrical equipment for radio programs, television broadcasts, concerts, sound recordings, and movies. 

Film and video editors and camera operators manipulate moving images that entertain or inform an audience. 

Multimedia artists and animators create animation and visual effects for television, movies, video games, and other forms of media.

Career Opportunities: Entertainment Production, Audio Engineer, Television & Audio Broadcasting Production.

Ryan is a full time vocationally certified teacher who has instructed at YV-TECH since 2002, and is a product of our own Yakima career and technical education system. He was a 1994 Vocational Industrial Clubs of American, National silver medal winner for two-person video production skills competition. Ryan, most recently, worked for KATU-TV in Portland, OR. Prior to then he worked for KIMA, KNDO and KAPP in Yakima.
